Nylon at the crown is much stronger than an all leather halter.

Lead can be used for a "side pull" or "center pull" to tighten the nose band. It also can be attached for "no-pull" which won't tighten on the nose.

When pulling back on a "center pull" halter, a mule is unable to see what is directly in front of it's feet and may not be willing to walk forward. The side pull allows the cautious animal to tilt it's head and see what it is stepping into.

Side pull halters can make a big difference in how well your pack train goes down the trail.
